This was enlarged and reversed to create the master template. Some of the sections were filled in with Flying Geese-type designs. 
The Foundation Pieced sections were constructed first, then the large background areas were cut out using Freezer Paper templates.

So 4:30 found me sitting at the computer writing a newsletter about the latest Kansas Troubles Fabrics.
I remembered that there's a block called Kansas Troubles, so I played around with it in QuiltPro4 and came up with this design, which I've called Pack Up Your Troubles.

I've worked out some great tips for getting the hexagons just right and for the centres to all be perfect (well nearly!).

It was a surprise gift for her and David's 25th Wedding Anniversary.

Well now they have it; it's on their bed and goes beautifully with the colour scheme in their bedroom.
It's the Buckeye Beauty block and is made from two charm packs, hence the name - Buckeye Charm.

Used a combination of Free Motion Embroidery and some of the decorative stitches on my machine (Janome Memory Craft 4800) and Mettler metallic threads. I have been designing my own Bargello Quilt using diddy-little bits of paper in preparation for the Advanced Bargello class that I'm running in a couple of weeks.

Starting last Monday - I went out to Sandhurst (near Tenterden in Kent) to do a 1 day workshop on Foundation Piecing. I was very well looked after by the ladies there, who even provided a sit-down lunch - very civilised!

First, I sewed a binding around my Shadow Quilted Baltimore Wreath block.
Aesthetically, I'm not that happy with it, but as a sample for this particular technique to use for my Applique class, it does the job.

It works out that one group are cutting whilst the others are sewing and vice versa.

A huge room full of people that I was there to teach Foundation Piecing to. It was a bit manic, but great fun! Once they got started, everyone was working at a different pace so it was hard work to keep up with their progress and give them right instructions at the right time. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

It was a very quiet day, not just for us, everyone else said the same. 
Still, it gave me a chance to do a bit of shopping myself. I bought some metallic threads, so I'm going to have a play about doing some fancy quilting using those - I'll let you see the photos of that when I'm done. 
Also, stocked up on several pieces of cheap fabric to use as quilt backings.

I made up a few samples to give you some more ideas for what to do with those little 3" Picture Squares which seem to be rather popular, although I still get people asking 'What do you do with them?'
Well, I cut out the square of fabric (picture plus 1/4" margin) and also a 3" square of scrap cardboard.

We went down to Townings Farm shop to pick up some South Downs lamb for dinner tonight, having lived on things out of the freezer for the past week and on Christmas leftovers the week before that.
Just got back from the farm in time for deliveries to arrive - the workshop is now full of wadding, 505 spray, rotary mats and blades etc. etc.
